Northern Neck Foster Parent Program

Eligibility

What are the requirements :

• You must be at least 21 years of age.
• You can be single or married.
• You must have sufficient income to meet your own needs.
• You must be able to provide a safe and healthy home
• You must have enough living space to care for a child.
• You must be willing to work with the Department of Social Services, the child's birth parents, schools, and other professionals working with the child.
• You must be able to help a child cope with the separation from his/her family and with the effects of abuse and neglect .
• You must complete the application process and you and everyone in you household over 18 must meet the background screening requirements.
• You must also complete the required Pre-Service Training and commit to attend on going In-Service Training.

The forms required for application are available on the right of this page. In addition to these forms, you will need to request a Fingerprinting card and a Water Test Kit from the Foster Parent Coordinator. You will also need to submit with your application a Rabies' Certificate for all dogs and cats that reside on the premises and a copy of your Homeowner's or Renter's Insurance and Automobile Insurance policies.
